This is of interest to this bunch, no doubt.  It's nice when someone can be honest about having been...ahh... less than smart with their money. :)

Thanks Rev! True this:

"I'm starting to realize that when you focus on how little money you have that you are never happy because you always think you need more. If you respect the money you DO have then it will respect you."

I like James Altucher.

Stumbled on his blog a few months ago (IIRC it was via the Raptitude guest post here, then the Raptitude guy linking to James) and have enjoyed it since.

He offers a chance to get his latest book, that came out a few days ago, for free:

I'm not a huge fan of Reddit or AMAs, but I'll check this one out.  Thanks for sharing!
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
I (rarely) blog at AdventuringAlong.com. Check out the Now page to see what I'm up to currently.

Thanks!  He's a really interesting guy.

I really like this advice he gave:

yes. i call it "the daily practice" but really its my practice. What works for you might be different. In the book I also describe a "simple daily practice" to ease into it.

  • I eat well
  • i sleep well. I used to never sleep. Sleeping is the key to ALL health
  • i don't drink. Drinking is a depressant and has a lot of sugar.
  • i only engage with positive people. Even on this AMA i don't engage with people trying to bring me down. NEVER.
  • i read every day. 2 hours. Books. not web.
  • i write 10 ideas a day. Doesn't matter what kind of ideas. The key is to get the idea muscle going.
  • I am every day grateful. if i start to slip into thinking about scarcity, i change to think about abundance. It is such a pleasure to do this.

Do all of the above for six months. I guarantee its like magic what happens then. Please try it. I don't care if you buy my book or not. Try the above.

Thanks for introducing me to this guy's stuff.  I like his energy!  Not sure whether I'll buy his latest book (even with the refund -- I'm trying to avoid buying books) but I notice a lot of his older books are available through the Amazon Prime lending library.  Just looking over his Twitter feed, will delve into his blog & books.  I feel like his stuff is the right advice for me right now.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
