Beer is also a huge expense in our household. Around here, a good pint of craft at the bar with friends is usually 6-9 dollars, and the places where we go to drink general don't serve the mega-brew stuff. Absolutely do drink it for the taste and the varieties. Absolutely no drinking of crap beer around here. If you're going to drink, it's either something of known quality, or we're trying out a new microbrew we didn't know about. We're also in SoCal, so lots of awesome breweries to support, and we also get great stuff shipped here.

Wine, on the other hand, is usually kept at $7-$20 a bottle, bought for home. Or about $10-15 a glass going out. Craft cocktails verge on the ridiculous.

Coffee, yes definitely. I'll happily drink plunger (French press) coffee, but it had better not be with crappy supermarket beans that have been on the shelf for months, and I'm not drinking International Roast or Nescafe.

I'm with you on this. Still, buying a pound of fresh, locally-roasted beans and making yourself coffee with that is LOADS cheaper than picking up coffee at a coffee shop every day! Also about a quarter of the cost of going the awful Keurig route...

Guitar strings, i just cannot convince myself to buy the standard £7 ones and always opt for the expensive £17 sets. The irony is i'm a terrible guitarist too!!

... and the guitar I put the strings on. Playing a well built, resonant instrument is so much more gratifying and emotive for me. Likewise, even though I've been playing for 25 years, a good guitar compensates for my deficiencies. That said, I am quite good at finding deals on guitars and  won't see much (if any) depreciation should I choose to sell.

I agree with others that Mustachianism != Frugalism, even though they're definitely close.

For me: food and electronics, though I've gotten much better!

I still find myself spending $300-400 on food. I am guessing since I don't know how/if I'm eating on less than $10 a day. I buy expensive packaged stuff at the grocery store and don't do a lot of made from scratch. I'm lazy when it comes to cooking and definitely need to get better. But, I'm also not willing to go on a rice, beans, and spaghetti diet since it isn't the healthiest. Then again, neither is half the shit I eat either. The thing is, I know I could get monthly spending down to $150, but I just don't care enough to do that. Maybe I'll set that goal for next month.

Here's me and electronics: I buy exactly what I want. I'm down to a setup I really like though and probably won't upgrade for 3-5 years.

Spending is very low in other areas so these are my two compromises.
