I'm only 24 and I'm more than ready to give it up too. It's kind of funny what we consider work though, isn't it? I'm a programmer and I want to retire ASAP so I can stop getting paid to develop other people's projects for money in an office, and start developing my own for free at home. Half the stuff you talk about doing after retirement is stuff other people regularly get paid to do as their job. So are we really lazy, or do we just have a low tolerance for the BS that permeates most workplaces?
Plus, not sure about other places, but in North America we have a huge culture of overwork. The 40-hour work week was originally supported by the idea that we should split our days into 8 hours for work, 8 for sleep and 8 for play. But when you add in your commute time, house and yard work, familial responsibilities, etc., most people spend far more than 8 hours per day working. This was much less of an issue when the 40-hour work week was first implemented because families tended to be single-income, so it was easier for paid workers to live very close to their jobs, and the other partner could take care of most of the unpaid work that needed to be done. Not that those were the "good old days" by any stretch, but I feel like people today work too much, so wanting to work less than that doesn't seem lazy at all to me.
