Inspiring saving through games
« on: February 12, 2016, 10:05:32 AM »
I just got an email from my 401k provider, and it looks like they might be a sponsor of a smartphone game that is trying to inspire people to save. Called FutureJet, link at end of post. I'm sure there are other games like this out there, but I like seeing that there are people out there finding new ways to motivate others to save.

Summary:
FUTUREJET City may look like a sleek metropolis that’s got it together, but under the surface things aren’t so pretty. The people in this utopia have gotten used to the bounty of their city – getting whatever they want, whenever they want it. They’re so focused on the present that they’ve forgotten to plan for the future, and they’ve been consuming the city’s resources without a care for tomorrow.

But their lifestyle has caught up with them, and now their home is in danger. Some of FUTUREJET City’s residents are panicked. Most of them don’t even seem to notice the fate they’re headed for. But two young heroes, Max and Maci, see where the city’s refusal to save is taking them. As the most recent graduates of FutureJet Academy, they’re the only ones who can step up and make a difference for tomorrow. But they need your help to do it!

Their explanation of Why FutureJet:
"Saving money can be difficult, especially when there’s so much out there screaming to be bought right this second. But being able to save and plan for your future can make a huge difference in everything from saving up for an item or a trip to larger things, like saving for retirement.

FUTUREJET was created to present a lesson in the importance of saving through a fun lens, inviting you to help Max and Maci save their endangered city. And it doesn’t matter how old or how young you are – saving is important at any age, which is why FUTUREJET is made for all ages.

You’ll be a hero in the game when you help Max and Maci collect and save resources to help their home – and you can be a hero in your own life if you learn from their example and make sure you’re doing some saving of your own!"
