Title: ING Thrive Chequing Account - Free $100!! (For Canadians)
Post by: AJDZee on July 15, 2013, 08:48:18 PM
ING is promoting their Thrive chequing accounts (no fee, higher interest chequing account).

Right now they are offering a $100 FOR FREE if you open up an account, change your paycheque (<--see Canadian) from work to get deposited into the new account, and continue until end of September.

I did this last year and it was well worth the 20 minutes to set up. Also because I have bills that automatically come out of my current TD account, I set up an automatic transfer to TD. I just set it and forget it. After the 'vesting' period was over and I got my bonus I simply contacted my HR again to put my payroll back to TD.

It's the easiest $100 I've made in a long time.

Here's the link...

p.s I'm not a bot or work for ING, I just like free money haha

I suppose ING is doing this because they hope you will stay with them.  Can you check back end of September to let us know whether you stayed with ING or went back to TD?

I am with BMO, perfectly happy, but might try this too.

That's exactly why they're doing this, they want people to use their bank as their primary account, and show you can live with the brick&morter of your current banks, hoping you'll stay after the period is over.

I actually did this last year, they had the same promotion on last year. At the end I set my payroll back to TD. It's not that I wasn't happy with ING chequing, I'm like you and perfectly happy with my bank (TD), I don't pay a cent in charges to them. I just did the little experiment for the $100. :)  And now if I ever get fed up with TD I still have the ING chequing account, it's an easy switch.

Another promotion if you're looking for a high interest savings account rather than a chequing account is to sign up an account at the link below and put in my Orange key (16667279S1). We will each get $25 and you will get 2.5% interest for a period of time (forget the length)

Or do both and enjoy the $125! (But if you do, set up the savings account first or else you won't get the $25 referral bonus)

There is a savings account with Achieva that gives you a $25 referral; plus $1 a month if you turn paper billing off. PM me for a referral number!

My 100.00 for switching direct deposit came in the form of 100.00 gift card for an Apple authorized retailer -not usable for itunes or online...the nearest store being a 12 hour drive away (not that I would use it anyways) I can't even give it away.

12-hour drive away, wow that's not really practical.  It might be worth it to sell on ebay or craig's list or kijiji. Even if you get $80 it's better than the piece of plastic you have now.

I think there are also websites that will buy gift cards at a reduced rate too. You'll probably get less than you would from a private seller because you're cutting out a middle man, but it might be your easiest/fastest way to unload it.

By the way, did you end up keeping the ING chequing account, or switch your payroll back to your original bank like I did?

I have been working at trying to resell to some hipster friends of my SIL in Calgary :)

I have been an ING customer for years and years (back when they were new and the interest rates were way better!) and it didn't take much convincing to switch payroll over anyways because we were used to dealing with a CU and there is not one here and I had such an incredibly negative experience with the one bank in town when we moved here, I have had little interest dealing with them.
