Guess I'll jump on this bandwagon. The $50 referral promotion has been extended to Dec 31st, so it's a good time to sign up. (If you sign up without a referral or outside of the promotion you still get $25.) The other bonus to signing up now is once you sign up you can refer other people and you get $50 for each of them, and they get $50 too. Pretty cool. Plus you get an extra $100 bonus if you can refer 3 people before Dec. 31.

Maybe what we could do is if you sign up using someone's referral #, put a post up here saying whose you used and add your own - then the next person can choose you or someone else who hasn't had a referral yet, and put their own # up, etc.

I had a low-tech family member interested in the referral, so I typed up these instructions for the Canadian Tangerine account.  Feel free to copy/paste (use your own referral number) if you want to refer your friends and family once you have your account. Of course you are also welcome to sign up with my referral number if you so desire and do not yet have an account ;-)

You will need:
-your full address
-your social insurance number
-my orange key (referral number)  36063727S1
-a cheque for $100 from yourself to yourself
-an envelope with stamp OR a smart phone or ipad (to deposit the cheque to yourself. The smart phone is obviously faster and less expensive than a stamp)

1. Go to www.tangerine.ca/referafriend and click 'Sign me Up' and choose the kind of account you want (savings/chequing)
2. fill in your personal details and select a pin number (write it down somewhere safe ESPECIALLY if you do not plan to use your new account often)
3. Finish setting up your account by logging in with your new account number and pin number to make your security questions
4. To qualify for the bonus money ($50 for new accounts until Dec 31, 2014, $25 after that) you need to make an initial deposit of $100 or more - write yourself a cheque then mail it to the new bank OR  install the 'Tangerine Mobile Banking App' on your smart phone or tablet  - log in and take a picture of the cheque using the app to deposit it much faster and save yourself a stamp.
5. Done!  Once they verify the cheque you will get your extra credit and instructions to destroy the original cheque.
