Iím buying a Cybertruck
« on: December 03, 2023, 03:28:43 AM »
Well, Iím sold. Iím convinced I need this thing.

I never knew it before, but now my desire to have a fridge that drives itself is what Iíve been lacking in my life all along. I thought my fridge was the only appliance in my life I wanted with basically unremovable fingerprints, but now I realize I need it on my vehicle too. And I never knew I needed to throw baseballs at my truckís window but now after seeing it I just canít resist.

Also, my current vehicle doesnít have enough space for all the Cheetos I want to buy on any given grocery run from the local Walmart, so now Iíll be able to fit all the Cheetos and cakes and soda I want into the back because it has a sliding cover that will safely protect my purchases from the elements.

The local bank has agreed to finance this purchase for me for 30 years for only 15% APY. I mean with that kind of a deal Iím basically losing money not investing in this baby.

Thereís really nothing anyone can do to stop me, Iíve already made up my mind. Good luck out there on the road if you make me mad, Iíll have 3000 pounds of stainless steel ready to go in the palm of my hands.

You need one of those skull stickers to really prove you mean business....and maybe a trailer so you can actually haul a sheet of plywood or whatever trucks are for besides showing off.

Hang on, before you get carried away here, let me remind you that the cybertrack has a zero to 60 time of only 2.6 seconds.

I mean, that's just unsafe.  You won't be able to keep up with traffic going that slow.   Clearly, the only smart move is to put down a deposit on the SuperCyberPlaidBeast edition.

Oh you should definitely buy one. And then liquidate your investment accounts and buy a few more.

I think the Cybertruck kind of looks like a giant sheetmetal Dorito chip. Maybe you could fill the back of it with actual giant doritos?

The good news is that it'll only set you back $61k for the entry level model, I'd leverage in and get the $100k model since it's basically guaranteed to go up in value.

Totally. Why wait for the entry-level model when you can get the top-of-the-line optioned model. And it's a halo vehicle. Every owner is guaranteed a halo glow around their head. This thing is going to double in price, maybe triple, in 5 years.

Pshaw.  Been there, done that.  My first car:

Key elements included the sliding doors that allowed me and my friends to fit our colorguard flag poles in the car along the sides, and the fold down seats in the back when I had extra friends to drive to band camp.

Sorry but with no fingerprint smudges as well as sensible door handles, your vehicle is far too outdated.

Does anyone know if the barriers are included in the purchase price?  You'll need them to keep people's smudges off of your high maintenance exterior as well as protect them from cuts on the sharp edges...

I was going to post the normal "If Microsoft Made Cars" list, but that is so last century.

But I can't resist a little Unix fun:

Well, Iím sold. Iím convinced I need this thing.

I hear you. Still, Iím holding off until it comes with his Neuralink brain implants so I can drive-by-thought, and be connected to Starlink Internet 24X7. (If you doubt thatís the plan youíre not paying attention.)

What keeps my attention now is the fact that itís still better looking than a Bentley or Range Rover, the interior has more in common with my home desk set-up than a Cessna cockpit, and it has real potential to reduce the number of F150s driven by soccer moms in upscale suburbia.

I keep trying to laugh at this thing, and I can manage a chuckle. But when the guy who out-techs NASA rocket scientists, has the largest governments on the planet kissing his satellite ass, and beats the Porsche-Lamborghini turborati at both range and 0-60 mph by 30% and 50-cents on the dollar builds an American pick-up truck, Iíll skim the Road-and-Track review.

Now if he could just manage to shut-up as a strategy and stop taking courses on the Constitution at Sunday School in Texas, he might make something of himself after all.

Like all Tesla vehicles, the Cybertruck will have top safety ratings. Its a myth that CT doesnít have crumple zones (see video below).

Anyway, I get the OP was offering up some humor. Obviously, anyone trying to find their way to FI shouldnít be spending $60-$100k on any vehicle. However, I would offer, given the engineering that went into CT, you are getting far more for your $60k (pre-$7.5k tax credit) with a CT than with any similarly priced vehicle. Iím not endorsing folks that drive trucks to work and soccer practices, but the CT has high functionality and toughness, that has real world applications for those who actually venture off-road, etc.

This is video is a good watch for insights into why CT is the future and the amount of new technology is staggering. Liquid aluminum gigapress castings, 48V architecture, software adjusted air suspension, structural battery pack, new 4680 cells with 9% increase in energy density, reduced wiring in wiring harness (ethernet), steer by wire, software adjusted regenerative breaking that adjusts to the weight being hauled/pulled (increase range, save brakes).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5zDNaY1fvI

Content starts at 1:10.

Thereís a reason Ford just announced it was cutting F-150 lightning production in half starting Jan 1 (3,200 to 1,600 per week). Iím sure the arrival of CT deliveries was coincidental :) Ford claimed lack of demand, but Tesla reportedly has over 2 million CT reservation holders. Even if only half convert, Tesla is sitting on 4-5 years of back order and hasnít even run a commercial. Tesla will produce/sell ~100k CT in 2024 and 250k in 2025.

You may not have noticed but I acknowledged the OPís attempt at humor in my first post above. I have no problem with folks making fun of the Tesla. The look of the CT is polarizing. Have at it. I posted primarily to debunk the false claim that CT does not have crumple zones. I was not aware that threads had to be either strictly humorous or factual in nature. Iíll move on from responding to you as youíre 0-2 in both the substance and humor departments. Perhaps others are up for an internet message board discussion that mixes humor and facts.

Just more examples of following the uninformed and misleading mainstream media pile on of Tesla.

Obviously an expensive pickup is not FIRE friendly and not something most people on this forum would buy, whether a Tesla or a Ford F150.

At the same time there are millions of very expensive gas powered pickups sold every year and the Cybertruck will be better than them in terms of performance and sustainability.

No one has done more to bring about a sustainable planet than Elon Musk and Tesla.

But by all means continue with the uninformed piling on.

Sorry, I care about the earth, and therefore support Tesla.

Guilty as charged.

EVs would not exist in any meaningful way without Tesla.

Now they are expanding into Pickups, Semi trucks, and compact cars so they can eliminate more gas powered vehicles, and helping convert the electric grid to solar and battery.

I believe in global warming and therefore appreciative of this, plus the fact that they do this while making products that can accomplish this while standing on their merits.

I will never buy a Cybertruck, but would rather have them on the street than a stinky gas guzzler.

I mean, you said "no one has done more to bring about a sustainable planet than Elon Musk and Tesla" which is a bold claim.  I'd argue there is a long list of items that do more for sustainability than making 7000 pound, $61k+ personal vehicles.

For the new Cybertruck owners out there: The US Forest Service is offering free educational resources on how to properly use your new vehicles in the forest.

Perhaps Tesla would also be open to partnering with Ford for towing services.

You should look into Elon's efforts to undermine public transit before anointing him as some kind of deity.

Obviously not anointing him as a deity, canít have a productive discussion with these kind of false accusations so not much point in continuing.
I mean, you said "no one has done more to bring about a sustainable planet than Elon Musk and Tesla" which is a bold claim.  I'd argue there is a long list of items that do more for sustainability than making 7000 pound, $61k+ personal vehicles.

Yeah...I live with a senior international emissions-reduction policy analyst. This is what I hear about day in and day out. Musk has been very good in the past at branding himself and Tesla as major factors in emissions reduction, but that doesn't play out in the models and measures.

Let's also not forget that the guy makes rockets...

Is being humorless a requirement for being a Tesla stan?
if this is what passes for humor in your life, my condolences.

I like bad puns. It's a low bar. Just like the Cybertruck.

So save weight, and the environment, Tesla fans had to have their sense of humor surgically removed.

It's kept in cold storage and will be uploaded into a neuralink implant, which will be released in 2023 2024 2025 2026.

And the implant will absolutely not kill you, just as it didn't kill any monkeys...

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
