Ah awesome - looks PayPal worked for quite a few people. I have that connected to my bank. Been 5 days since my deposit went in... thinking I need to get a direct deposit registered before too long, as they charge $10/15 month otherwise? Also, if I keep this open for a couple months, I need to keep making DD of $500+ or 10 debit transactions?

For the "bank transfer" that appeared as a direct deposit, did you have to "push" the money from your bank, or just do a transfer in via Wells Fargo online?

Check out the list of what works for each bank here http://www.doctorofcredit.com/knowledge-base/list-methods-banks-count-direct-deposits/

Add to it if you can as the more data points people add, the better.

Hey, do you happen to know if the list of acceptable "direct deposits" for the purpose of getting "sign-up-bonuses" from most banks is the same as the list of what are acceptable "direct deposits" that are used to waive monthly account fees?

For example, I use Chase for my primary checking account, and am fairly happy with them. However, if I stop receiving my regular paychecks via direct-deposit (e.g. I retire early), is it easy enough to meet the "direct deposit" requirement by just ACH'ing from some of my other accounts?  Or are they pretty restrictive on this?  If so, I might have to switch to Ally as my "primary" checking account, and close down Chase when it comes time to FIRE.

If it's coded as a direct deposit for sign-up bonus, it'll work to keep it fee-free as well
