I was born in Northern Africa, lived 5 years in France, then Canada, have family all over Europe and South America, visited over 40 countries, some for a few days, others much deeper for several months. I used to enjoy travel for the sake of it, I now have no desire whatsoever to travel in the accepted sense of the term especially by air which I really despise. But I am part of the "overlanding" crowd, preferring to travel by land over vast distances over many months or years. For the past 3 winters, I have logged over 70,000 km throughout Canada, the US, and Mexico in my truck camper in 6-month instalments, and am planning to continue down the Panamerican "Highway" through Panama, and on to Colombia and the rest of South America, as soon as I wrap up my last gig, hopefully, next fall. At first, my wife did not share my love of vagabonding and camping especially when we used a rooftop tent and had no amenities whatsoever, but now that we have upgraded to a truck camper that has such luxuries as cold water and a porta-potty, she is starting to warm up to the lifestyle...
