If pre paid isn't allowed by the hotel is there another option?

I had the same situation this year.  I gave my son a few free nights with Hotel points but the Hotel needed a credit card for incidentals.  I called up the Hotel and they took care of it.  They sent me a form to fill out and send credit card info and my signature approving charges.  I would recommend calling the Hotel, they can probably take care of it for you

If they are closely related to you (wife, kids) then you can probably call the hotel and take care of it that way.  If not, then you really don't have a lot of options as most all hotels require a CC when you check in whether you pay with it or not, even if you get them a hotel gift card.

Hotels have forms for this.  It should not be a big issue with most chains.

I've been to a hotel recently where the person at the next counter had this issue.  The clerk was explaining they could still check in but a deposit was required (it was a few hundred dollars and the credit-card-less guest was livid).  They DO have workarounds for those without CCs but call and see what it is as I'm sure each hotel has a slightly different approach/fee

If it won't be needed soon, and you trust them, you can put them on your credit card as an authorized user (AU) - they will get a credit card with their name and your CC #s.
You can get the AU card sent directly to them or to you.
You can remove the AU anytime you want, but you need to get the card back (and destroy it).

You could put the booking under your own name with your own credit card and when the person checks in (mentioning it's under a different name), just have them charge the info they already have.

Can't confirm this works everywhere, but it did (not for this reason, but that was the series of events) at a Red Roof in Michigan this year.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
