Learning on a controlled game board with 100% compliance rules is much different than operating in the real world.

I’m not too worried yet.

This is totally fascinating, but...

The possibilities are finite, the rules are known, and the win condition is a binary outcome.

I am weary of headlines declaring "the end" basically daily. It's not even whether or not it's the end, it's whether or not we are understanding what the current state of AI is. Totally impressive! However, I would like to hear that, say, Watson is actually doing cancer research, instead of parroting the opinions of the staff of Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Then we'll be at the end! Or the beginning.

Well, it is working out how proteins fold for pharma. I know many will disagree, but this is pretty much the end to "knowledge" based jobs. Perhaps future research will be more about learning how to frame the questions in a way machines could understand than working on the actual problems themselves.

Let's not forget, other AI discovered the benefits of lying and constructed their own language. The researchers also believe given enough time, this particular AI could have learned the rules on its own.
