Who else never looks at their 401K?
« on: December 16, 2018, 03:54:20 AM »
I totally forgot about mine even existing and we get match 6% with our employer! I won`t check where we(me and wife) stand again until probably next year out of curiosity.

Very rarely. I have a general idea of where I stand, and I don't feel the need to monitor every little fluctuation, or to gloat every time my contribution hits.

I make sure I'm on Pace to Max it out, and also not miss any matching contributions.  I also update my net worth on the 1st of the month so I log in and check the value then.

Same here, I've been doing my net worth update in the same excel chart for 21 years now.  It's robotic at this point, now that I'm FI I barely pay attention to the individual account numbers, I just look at the net worth end state.

I deposit a significant percentage of my paycheck into my 401k, so I check on the regs to make sure the deposit makes it over. My company has a history of delayed payments for some reason, so if it's approaching the next paycheck, I poke HR to see what's up. They said they've recently switched systems, so fingers crossed that helps.

It’s tied into my personal capitol app which I look at frequently to verify paychecks came through, 401k deductions came out, credit card spending is accurate (no fraudulent charges) etc.

By default, my net worth is the first screen that pops us, as such, I check it several times a week.

I wouldn’t mind seeing less, it just saves me from needing to check my bank account, employer paycheck account, credit card account, and the likes, all separately.

I have my Canadian equivalent in Mint, but I definitely ignore it - I check my overall net worth from time to time, but have no idea what's in my individual accounts.

I tend to check when I notice news of market drops because I prefer to capitalize on some tax loss harvesting in my taxable account.

Yep, same, though usually around the 7th of the month for me. But I also do check it other times as well. When I see big market moves, I'm curious as to how exactly my portfolio was affected.
