« on: March 04, 2017, 05:36:45 PM »
I'm trying to get mine to a more reasonable amount but not sure what people typically pay.

Thanks for sharing!

Charter (SoCal), $60/mo. Intro rate was $40 but we've been on the verge of possibly moving "in 6 months" since it expired. Also they *outperform* their advertised speed and we've maybe had one outage a year for about 10 minutes...so maybe it's worth it, IDK. (Or our expectations have been severely lowered by dealing with Comcast in Chicago.)

$70 for ATT Uverse DSL.  I'm switching next month to toast.net, an ATT reseller.  Better speed and cheaper!  $45/mo for 18mbps.

I'm paying the $80 for 10Mbps service including phone but no TV.  It's DSL based.  The DNS is responsive and their ToS are agreeable, so I'm OK with it.  I'm thinking of killing the phone line for a $30 savings.  We have the most basic Dish package for TV ($40) which I'll kill too when I get an antenna working.  Even the 10Mbps service has been fine for streaming with the Roku.

$70 per month for ATT Gigapower around Raleigh, NC, which on my old macbook's wifi is typically 200 mbps up and down, or ~300-400mbps via ethernet cable. "Slow" is when it goes down to 60mbps up/down.

Me too. They really didn't want to let me sign up for that. Told me it would be too slow and I'd hate it. But it's been fine.

It briefly went up to $80 for the lowest tier with time warner. I had enough and went to the office to pitch a fit. The lady cut my bill literally in half. She said she saw I was upset and didn't want to lose a customer. I hate TWC.

$65 a month for 10/2 Mbps. It'd be $70 if not for me owning my own modem.

Unfortunately it's the only option in town. Jealous of those who pay half of what we do and get 10x the speed.

$40/mo with 2 yr contract, FiOS 50/50. $50/mo for year 2.
It was $75 a couple years ago when I cut FiOS cable and went internet only.
Then I went to time warner cable, $35/mo for 15/1, which sucked immensely. Especially when working with video files uploading to Dropbox.
Switched back to FiOS after a couple of months when I was eligible for a new subscriber deal. I figure I will just play the two off each other every couple years.

Taxes included, we pay $62/month for 50Mb.  (Actually, it measures at 75Mb or higher.  50Mb is the advertised speed we are paying for though.)  We're out in the country and we're pretty damn happy to have this for this price.  We were here for 5 years with more expensive options that were extremely slow and data-capped.

On the last few months of a 1 year $40 promo with a regional cable provider (BRCTV - the only decent option in town). Will go up to $58 in May. 10MB down/800k up with an 800GB cap (which actually used to be 550 until January).

It's the best deal for the area, unfortunately. DSL for our address is half the speed for 1.5x the cost.

$50/month for crap Comcast.  This is the promo rate for one year.  Then it goes up to $75, I think.  Literally no other options where I live, which is really annoying, because I had much better service when I lived one mile north.  One of those hidden costs of moving that I didn't factor in.

My provider is Start, I'm in Southern Ontario. I get 25/2, 150GB for $40. I know they have a 30/2, unlimited plan for $50. I stick to my plan just because it's $10 cheaper and I average about 100GB a month. Zero complaints about their service, in two years I have been down once and it was fixed within 4 hours.

$40 for 375GB is great. I'd like to know the provider as well, just cause I'm curious.

I'm at $42 after taxes for """Spectrum""", which is a 'promo' rate with $20 off $60/100Mbps. For folks who still have an under $40 plan, what speeds are you on? When I called to complain, the lady swore up and down that there wasn't another lower speed plan available in my area. *angerface*

I'm at $65/mo for FIOS.  It's more than I need, but my roommate is a gamer and likes the fast internet.  Not that I can complain too much, I like it too ;)  Probably would downgrade if it was just me, though.

$129.95. For 150GB/month and reasonable upload/download speeds.
We need fairly decent service as we both work remotely.
It is brutal seeing what others are paying for better service ... definitely a cost of rural living.

Is there any competition in your area? If so, when it expires, you might try calling and say you have an offer from another company for the rate you're currently paying, and see if they'll match it for another promo term (they did for me).

I've also heard of partners switching off/changing the account name to continue the "new account" promo rate. That is, if you want to stay with Comcast :) I know, calls w/ Comcast can be painful! And must be very well documented.

We paid $55/month for 5mpbs from Centurylink but last week I got upset with that price so they lowered it to $25/month for the next 12 months. And yes, that is the fastest speeds available from that provider in our area

I cancelled my Charter Spectrum service this afternoon after getting new AT&T service installed yesterday. The Spectrum price had increased to $65 per month, the second price increase in 3 months. I had frequent brief outages and was angry about a second price increase so soon after the first. My new AT&T plan will be $40 per month, unfortunately only locked at that price for a year. As far as I could tell, those two companies are my only choices.

Nope, no other providers! And when we've tried the partner tradeoff in the past, at least, the whole 'same last name same address' nixed us from promo rates. We moved like 2 months later, so I never fought it then, but will still be annoying if it happens =\

And to anyone who says they is only ONE ISP in your area, you are wrong. Just like the people who say they were only 4 cell phone providers. Yes you may be using the same hardware, but there are plenty of sub companies to get your internet through.

$75/mth for 10/1 Mbps* and 200 GB.
Like others here, it is a downside of rural living.

* effective speed over the last week has been <5 Mbps. Sometimes in the evenings on weekends we are down to around 1.5 Mbps.
AND there are no other providers!

How do we go about finding them, then? Because I've used like, 'address lookup for ISP' sites and it is... drumroll... just comcast. Even a half mile away they get into other providers, but not here. So what am I missing?
