For me, it's less than 1,000.  Depends on choices we make and how things go, but I think worst-case yet still realistic is ~920.  A lot can change between now and then, though.  I think if the number changes, it'll decrease, not increase.

Gulf Shores, AL.  All we have to take with us are the clothes we have left here (only 3 weeks worth really - everything else is already waiting for us at our home there) and we'll be making a drop at Good Will somewhere along the way to drop off DH's work clothes that he'll no longer need.  Since I've kept sundresses and cardigans to work in the last couple of weeks, I'll keep those for use on the beach.

I calculated mine and its a little depressing haha. 1840 days worst case, stretch goal of 1380. With how fast this last year went, I'm sure it'll feel like no time!

My spreadsheet says 8.1 yrs so that's 1823 work days.  That's an even more depressing number when expressed in work days instead of years, sigh.   More incentive to keep chipping away at the burn rate.

It sounds a lot better when you compare it to a 25 year career. Hmm I estimate I have about 1260 work days left. Well if I were to do the typical 25 year career I'd have to work for 5725 days. I'm saving myself 4465 days of work... sweet.

Well the bump on this thread made me go back and find what I had commented here.

I think I'm just now at the point I talked about 6 years ago. 1260 days is about 5.3 years worth. (I was 1 year into my career when I said it, and I took a year off in the middle since then) My SO also wasn't able to maintain her high paying career that she had at the time that gave me a more rosy outlook. Her mental health was quickly deteriorating (50 hour week minimums) so she wasn't able to keep that job very long.

Unfortunately, unless I moved to a foreign country, I can't retire quite yet. My early 20's self was probably a bit too optimistic about the market and a little too unrealistic about increasing expenses (kids man). I think I could minimally retire in about 3 years or fully in about 5. So 8-10 years of work which I guess more or less lines up exactly with the MMM numbers. So another 700-1,200 days of working remain.

Original anticipated date: my 40th birthday. When I joined this thread that was about 3,500 working days away, now it's only about 1,900.

That being said, the wife wants to work until 45 and wants us to retire at the same time, so that puts me closer to 3,150 days left if I use her 45th birthday as the anticipated date.

Not sure which one will be closer to actual, just gonna try to avoid that "boring middle" feeling until then.

Had an old director stick around for the health insurance stayed 3 extra years for it (unnecessary years).  He tragically lost his wife to stage 5 cancer and his daughter in the first 9 months of retirement. 

Nothing is guaranteed the ACA exists as do many other options for health insurance.  Don't stick around longer than you need to for health insurance.  I'm sure the publicly available care will be far better in 13 years as well.  I see far too many from the Gen X and up generations fall into the trap of health insurance being tied to jobs and having to stick with it til they can buy it from their company.  No fault to them its now health insurance was invented in this country and how its been their whole lives.  Its also the number 1 question i get asked by older family and even coworkers when I tell them I'm retiring.
