how do I plug in a LEAF?
« on: April 23, 2017, 04:04:45 PM »
I'm thinking about a Nissan LEAF, but I can't figure out how to plug it in?

I have a four-prong outlet in my garage that looks like this:

It's wired to twin 40 amp breakers in the panel:

Can I just buy a cord that plugs into this?

You can plug in a Leaf with a regular 110 volt outlet (using the standard trickle charger that comes with the car).  It will take overnight to get a full charge.

It looks like your picture is for a 240 outlet (and probably a dryer outlet).  If you are thinking of buying a a "quick charger" for the the Leaf, then you MAY be able to use the wire (not sure of the gauge) and install a new plug.

Take a look at Clipper Creek charging stations--you may be able to get a wiring diagram.  Or, you can call them--I spoke to their rep and they were very helpful.
