How can I get rid of/redeem postage stamps?
« on: January 15, 2015, 08:22:49 PM »
I still have about $300 worth of postage stamps from when I had a business 4 years ago.  I thought for sure I would have used them all by now, but I just don't mail things anymore.  At this rate I'm going to outlive these stamps and I'm probably losing money through inflation. Most of these stamps are $1.00 stamps. Any creative ideas on how to recover this money?  One of the reasons I don't use stamps anymore is I do almost all my shipping via priority mail with pre-printed labels off the web.  That way, they will come to your house and pick it up.

Sell them on Ebay for $2.00 each (or double the face amount) PLUS postage! lol

Use the word "Vintage" in your listing, and you'll probably sell them quite well, if you come up with a creative listing.

Do you have a friend that works in an office that could buy them off you?

You can use them for sending packages, just figure out how many you need.  Maybe send something really nice to your mom :)

Thanks for sharing meteor, but this is in no way helpful to the OP. The OP is trying to use his/her stamps. Preprinting labels will avoid using such stamps.

It's my fault for not editing the original post (instead I added it as a comment).  I decided to edit the original post, so I don't confuse people.

Or if you're shipping out multiple things, can you priority mail one so they come pick it up, then use stamps on the others?  Will they take them all?

Do something nice for someone else...

Like:
1. Send your mother a new card every day for a year.. or until stamps run out
2. Send cards to service people overseas to cheer them up
3. Give them away to people buying postage
4. Buy presents (really cheap ones) and send them to random people in the phone book

Or sell them on Craigslist for 80-90% of their value in bulk

Include them with every card you send.  Some people give cash, you give stamps.

Maybe you could donate them to a nursing home or a nonprofit?  Wouldn't it then be a tax deduction?

Not sure of your location, but stamps are legal tender in a lot of countries. Technically you can spend them like dollar bills.  Not sure if shops would accept them, but banks probably would

Well, they used to be legal tender in a lot of countries, but I don't think they are any more in most. I think I remember when they ceased to be legal tender in Australia.

I need to buy stamps for mailing a larger than normal batch of cards and an upcoming package or 2. If you're willing to sell them at a discount, let me know. We could make a trade. :)

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
