Household Items: Costco vs. Amazon Pantry vs. Grocery Sales?
« on: April 05, 2015, 04:48:40 PM »
Just wondering where people prefer to do shopping for non-perishable household items (toothpaste, laundry detergent, toilet paper, etc.).  We have traditionally just stocked up whenever the grocery store is having a particularly good sale on something, but would love to see if anyone's actually done the math to see which one works best budget-wise.

Amazon Prime Pantry is sort of the new option in this space - I've never tried it, but looks like a potential good option as well, and would cut out the need for a drive to the store. Thoughts?

I don't have a car so buy online a lot.
I like soap.com which I find cheaper than my local grocery/drug store.
I got amazon prime recently and have started buying some products on amazon when they are cheaper - there are items available outside the pantry so you don't have to pay the pantry delivery fee.
Costco also delivers in my area but I don't have the storage space to buy in bulk.

I just joined Amazon Prime (mostly for TV options as we cut cable about 5 months ago) and my sister was raving about buying basic staples through their website; however, I'm conflicted because they OVER PACKAGE everything...waste...waste...waste...plus the fuel to ship a little container of something across the country to me seems irresponsible. I live 1.5 miles from Target and Costco and soon a Mejiers is going in just blocks away. I ride my bike for most trips.
