Help! Basement Side Hustle Project
« on: December 17, 2018, 07:20:32 PM »
Hello All!

I currently live in a house with a partial finished basement. I am wondering if any of you had any bright ideas of how to Monetize or create a side hustle with the extra space I have.

The basement space is about 1500 sq/ft with a large bedroom/living area, full kitchen, 1 bathroom, 1 large closet.  I also have another 800 sq/ft of unfinished space.

I know renting it out to a long term renter or doing airbnb would probably be most profitable, but I was looking for any other ideas since my wife is not too keen on having strangers in the house.

Please let me know your great ideas!

Thanks!

Why would someone pay you for a space they can't be in? Storage perhaps, but I can't think of anyone who would rather pay to store things in a person's basement over a storage unit.

If you have free time and want to start a salsa or granola company or something that could put your extra kitchen to good use. That's probably what I'd do if I had extra time and an extra kitchen.

How much of that space is 'extra'? (how much are you using?)
Does the basement have a separate entrance?  Could one be installed?
Are your washer and dryer in the basement?

An alternative to not having people there is to use the space to make things you sell on etsy (etc.).   Space allows you to buy supplies in bulk, which drastically lowers your cost per item.

Yes! There is a washer and dryer along with an exterior entrance.

I am not really using any of the space at the moment...

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
