I had a teacher in middle school who would spend a few minutes here and there teaching us "Graveyard Lessons". It's funny for the life of me I can't remember what subject exactly she taught (maybe english, maybe health?) but I DO remember a lot of these graveyard lessons. I also remember exactly how she should start these mini-lessons out "Today I'm going to teach you a Graveyard Lesson - that's right this is a lesson you are going to take to your grave!"
Now keep in mind this was even before MMM started a blog so her advice might not be as extreme/frugal as some of us here on the forum, but a lot of it helped inspire me to save money/make good decisions at a young age. So to kick the thread off here's a few I remember off the top of my head, feel free to add your own!
-Never have a car loan longer than three years
-Always save 20% of your paycheck
-Divide your monthly income by 4 and that's your maximum rent/mortgage payment
-Buy wheat bread instead of white
-Fill half of your dinner plate with vegetables
-When you're getting ready for college apply for every scholarship you can find; especially the ones that only a few other kids are applying for (I got a ton of $500-$1000 scholarships this way!)
-Emphasized avoiding teen pregnancy by picturing her in our head any time we were thinking about going to home base with a SO. I gotta say; those of us in her class did indeed avoid teen pregnancy lol
