Glad I didn't actually do FU, even when I had the $!
« on: December 13, 2015, 04:49:34 PM »
So, I posted about telling my then boss that I was not going to stay in Phx, and having the FU money to do just that. But, it wasn't *epic* because I kept it polite and did not burn my bridges (ie was firm but polite and respectful). I didn't actually have an issue with that boss, other than one really, really bad staff meeting that was uncalled-for. But his wife who worked as an office manager, was a raving bitch. That's another story, anyway, but I was *very* tempted to tell her where to go and how to get there.

Glad I did not because this past week, I was reminded of why I have always been careful NOT to do an epic FU, even if I have had issues with bosses (or their spouses). I've had 4 bosses over my "real job" life and about to have #5, as #4 is leaving for a big promotion in another state. I had substantial interactions with bosses #2-5, and although did not see boss #1 (who works at the same place as I do now), boss #5 used to work with/for boss #1 so it's a pretty small world.

Now, I do work in a somewhat small field, though the jobs were in 3 different cities in 2 different states, and my job now is different enough from previous ones that it's sort of surprising that this situation exists.

So, have you sorta been glad you didn't do an epic FU to leave a job?

The only 'epic' FU I ever did was Mcdonalds when I was 14.  Manager was a bully who kept suggesting/demanding I take shifts during school hours.

I have never regretted it.  Ever since I've always had good relations with my ex-employers, even when they were awful.

I was glad I didn't stoop to an FU, had a boss at a temp job who did to me though - Fired me for essentially having a punch-able face

Boss: "I don't think you should come back"

Me: "Why? I work quickly and efficiently"

Boss: "Ug! That's not all that matters! I-I-I don't know! It's just your face, you just sit there and look smug!"

Me: "hmm alright then, good luck on your thing"

I've never done it myself.  I recently quit my job at the end of August.  I initially gave my boss a 4 week notice, which we then negotiated out to 6 weeks in order to help with the transition and train my replacement.  He was very grateful for that.  I still talk to him occasionally about work and my previous customers.  I feel confident that I could call them up today and begin working tomorrow if I ever needed to.
