GetUpside Gas App...so far so good!
« on: March 28, 2022, 12:31:22 PM »
I know I know driving is no good but unfortunately some of us still need to get to work.  I have been using the GetUpside app to save some $$ when I fill up.  Depending on what bonus codes are floating around I can save upwards of .50+ cents per gallon.  Using it is easy and getting your money out is easy as well, simple as transferring to your bank account.   Local restaurants are also featured on it so some people may benefit from that as well.

If you want to sign up please use my referral code, I appreciate it!  I will get 15 cents/gallon off my next fill up and so will you.  Also I know there is a bonus code out there now...Shoppers35.  This will get you another 35 cents a gallon.  So all in all you are talking 50 cents per gallon off your next fill up, not too bad!

My referral code: MIKE55442
Bonus Code: Shoppers35

Anyone else use it?  Anyone know of any good codes to get additional savings?

As of 6/1/2023:

I currently have a $20 signup bonus for new users that sign up using my referral code MIKE55442 and purchase more than $10 worth of gas on their first use.

For current users...
I recently used Perksatwork230 and that added 35 cents a gallon off the price for two fill ups.  That can be used by anyone, so worth a shot if you already have the app and want to get a boost.

7CENTBONUS worked for me today.  An additional 7 cents per gallon. Hopefully it will work for you as well!

Found another code that works called comeback6

If you combine all codes you are looking at a pretty decent cashback when you fill up... over 80 cents per gallon by my calculations.

Codes:
MIKE55442
Shoppers35
7CENTBONUS
Comeback6

By using all of these you are looking at 63 cents per gallon off plus the normal 20-30 cents off that you normally get, so at least 80 cents per gallon.  Not bad!  I hope this is helpful to someone out there in Mr. Money world.

Its me again!  There is currently a pretty good promotion going on when you use my referral code so I figured I would throw it out to people.

Use MIKE55442 and you will get $11.11 cash back on your first tank.  Not bad!

Also worth mentioning that there are also grocery stores on the app that have decent cash back options from time to time.

I started using the app recently and used some of the codes in this thread too. Thank you!

Besides the regular discount, and the referral code, how are you finding the additional promo codes?

Glad to help!  Every bit counts... I have had some good luck on the reddit forum finding different promo codes that pop up from time to time.  I would say its worth checking once a month to see if any new ones come up.  I will keep posting them here as I find them as well.

There are only a couple weeks left before my referral bonus expires... Use MIKE55442 and you will get $11.11 cash back on your first tank.  I see a few of you have taken advantage, glad I could help people save a little to throw into VTSAX!

First month was fantastic... something like $40 back from Upside. Helped that I had used it for my camper van after a long road trip. Two things I'm noticing:

1. Savings drop off considerably after the first tank/first month codes expire.
2. The prices that Upside quotes are consistently lower than what I find at the pump when I arrive... So I'm pulling up the app, finding the gas station with the low price, driving to it immediately, only to discover that Upside was promising a much lower price than what's at the pump. This innacuracy is a pain... once you arrive, you either pay the higher price, or drive away and have wasted a trip. I can mitigate this a tiny bit by finding gas stations that are along my route, but most of the alleged lower prices require a short trip out of my normal routes.
3. I do get some cents from my sister using my referral code, but I'm not sure if Upside is really saving her any $ on gas.

With 1 & 2 together, it's a matter of a few cents difference between what I'd pay at my on-base Valero station vs what Upside can find me. Starting to get the impression that Upside is depending on a wave of good deals to get people hooked, but continued use doesn't provide my value.

What are others experiencing?

Similar experience here.

I got maybe $10 or $15 total from them initially, then it tailed off dramatically because I'm no longer a first time user / first tank filler.

I haven't seen the price inaccuracies you mention; maybe that is a local or regional issue.

I did also get dinged a fee when they let me cash out less than $10.  I had maybe $5 in my account, they took a $1 fee and deposited $4 or something like that.  It annoyed me that it was an easy mistake that they took advantage of.

For me, it doesn't pass the $$ per hassle factor.  YMMV.

I agree that it seems to be better for some users more than others depending on location etc.  What I found helpful was that the grocery store that I went to often was on the app, so that was a nice boost.  The gas is hit or miss.  The promo codes really help so I try to keep an eye on it.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
