Furnace Repairs
« on: September 15, 2014, 11:43:20 AM »

My 16 year old furnace just went out, and I had a company come over and diagnose it.

The Draft Inducer Motor and Pressure Switch are toast and need to be replaced.

The company quoted it at $658 to replace both parts.  (the $90 diagnostics fee already paid will go toward this)

My main questions for any Mustachian Furnace/HVAC experts are:

1.)  Is this something that the average Joe homeowner can do and look up on Youtube to replace himself?  Or is this definitely something to leave to the professionals?

2.)  Is it worth it to replace these parts on a 16 year old furnace at all?  Or does it make more sense to look into a whole new Furnace/AC System   **the AC is 16 years old as well.

I know that there's no way to tell how long the thing will last after replacing the parts, but wondering if any experts out there have a ballpark idea.

Thanks

Easy answer, look it up on YouTube then decide, watching a video is free.  Is it just a few bolts holding it on? Could you replace a starter motor on a car? That's to gauge your handiness level.

My tip is to take a lot of pics first, then a few along the way.  Feel free to video yourself with your phone if there's a tricky part.

Take a look at the switch, once you look at it you'll probably see that you can do it.
