My guess is that the website is about to be updated with a new article...

I've got my fingers crossed!  (really bored in my cubicle...)

I'm wondering if it's the Bogleheads forum DDOS'ing the MMM site. ;-)

In my experience, things do slow down a bunch when an article is in the works....but no dice yet.

It's been slow for me for a few days now.  I thought it was my computer or internet connection.  Glad I'm not the only one!

It was doing better last night, slow but working. Now I'm 50/50 getting a time out error/getting a slow response. It took me three tries (two time outs) to get to this thread.

For me it's been sslllloooooooww for at least three days. I click on a link, then I go and read some other blog for five minutes while the page loads. I'm ready to give up on this forum...

Centwise, that is exactly what I've been doing. Extremely frustrating.

It does seems to be a bit faster this morning though.

Same here in the midwest on Comcast.  Very slow loading times for forum pages, with plenty of 503 errors along the way.  I have to open a bunch of threads in tabs and then check back in 10 minutes to see if any of them loaded properly.  Been this way for the past few days.

Not working much for me, couldn't get on at all yesterday, very slow today.

Not going to fight it forever, eventually I'll just move on which would be sad. But I don't mess with stuff that frustrates me, life is too short. Would be nice if this forum just worked...

(I have been patient with the problems I have had with the forum, I have rarely complained despite having problems pretty regularly)

Well stated. This is very unfortunate.

Any mods/MMM have any update on the status of fixing this?

Wow, James, I sure hope that was internet sarcasm there. After all the time invested here, you'd just pack up your tent and walk away? Surely you jest.

Still slow for me.

And yet we were mocked by Nords and others in previous threads about this. Sorry that some of us care equally about these forums and our time that's wasted when it's slow or even fails to load at all for 10 minutes.

Wow, James, I sure hope that was internet sarcasm there. After all the time invested here, you'd just pack up your tent and walk away? Surely you jest.

Thanks for asking and not assuming, and no, I wasn't being sarcastic.

Just like MMM, I believe my time is valuable and best not spent on frustrating endeavors. (not that all frustration should be avoided, just that frustration shouldn't be ignored) Certainly I have spent less time on these forums already, both in general due to the issues I have had with access, and I stop by the forums less simply because of the previous issues I have had. In hind sight I wish I had contacted him earlier, I have talked to him by email in the past, and I realize not talking to him about this directly is a failure on my part.

I do think he is currently aware of the issues and I will continue to spend time here learning from others and offering my comments. Even if things here didn't change I wouldn't hold that against MMM personally, it's not his job to make this forum work well for me, and the validity of his ideas are sound regardless of the function of his forum.

Counting my time here as a reason to continue on despite any level of frustration would be putting too much weight on sunk cost. What counts is the benefit going forward, both to me and the community, and I hope to be around here for a good long time.

At the end of the day most people here participate because they enjoy it.

For some people, slow forums or them being down cause significantly reduced levels of enjoyment. Some more, some less. If this is enough people will leave.

I'm pretty sure MMM doesn't really care about your forum experience, or mine, or any other specific users'.  He cares about getting his message out, and if you're already a convert then there's little payoff for investing too much time into one person who is already on his side.

A blogger is never going to please his entire audience, and most don't bother to try.  They just write their stuff, and in most cases they outsource the forum work to volunteers mods.  Active non-paying forum members are a nice bonus just because they drive up traffic, but they're not vital to the success of the blog.

We all volunteered to help grow his traffic when we decided to contribute.  If we stop doing so, someone else will step up.  I have no illusions that my personal contributions are necessary, appreciated, or even recognized.

They're not necessary to the function of the forum, but I recognize and appreciate your contributions sol. I doubt MMM does though if that's what you meant.

When it slowed down, I just went and learned something else somewhere else. When it sped up, I returned for more regular activity. It was just a blip. No biggie.
