Title: flip flop sandals
Post by: billy on November 07, 2020, 05:09:38 PM
I'm currently wearing Rainbow sandals flip flops that cost about $50, with great arch support , but wondering if there is another brand at a lower cost that you can recommend?

Rainbows are great! They are quite durable, very comfortable, and they will repair your sandal for the life of the shoe! They define the life of the show as how long it takes you to wear through the sole.

I built some by cutting the tread off an old car tire found on the side of the road, tracing my feet, chopping them out, and then using some old bike tubes to create the strap part.  Wife doesn't let me wear them out of the house for some reason, but they work great for lounging in the yard.

Cost was reasonable (couple hours of puttering around the garage), but you might have to get creative for arch support.  Maybe you could just glue one of those sports insoles to the inside?

Around here everyone wears the KTA "Locals" brand that's about $5 each. No arches though...

Rainbow sandals are generally considered OK for casual use, but if you're going to a formal event you'd best use black or dark blue ones.

Scott from Hawaii (although I am not sure they are still made in Hawaii).

I buy the Hokuleas for the non-marking boat sole and great arch support, but the Manoa with a hiking sole is also said to have good arch support.  I wear them a  lot and they hold up very well.  I bought my first pair in 2012 and replaced them in 2016.  The 2016 pair is still going strong.  They sell at well under $50 on Amazon.

Reef makes some good sandals, this is my current "dress" pair:

Definitely on the pricier side, but they have 30% off sales fairly regularly.

I wear a pair of Olukai's that I got for free. Super comfortable and very durable, but on the pricy side.

Thanks for the suggestions, I went with Scott's Manoa, they have more rugged traction on the bottom then my Rainbow sandals, as my Rainbow's heel area got worn out a lot, but I did get 3yr 3 moths out of them which is good though. And the Scott's said the heel is cupped, so that should help out.

No, I love my Tevas but they are even more than Rainbows.

I'm in my Croc's 90% of the time.  I don't know how they compare for arch support, but I've worn mine for years.  I think we paid around $30 and the 2nd pair for $15.

I used to go through flip flops in a season. I have a pair that are several years old at this point. $10 or so from Target or WalMart during a beach vacation. I do chores wear those. Same with an ancient pair of Crocs.

I have a good pair of hiking sandals that may last forever. I'm pickier about when and where those get used. ~65 or so. One of the big brands. Can't remember which.
