Feeling a little smug today...

Feeling a little smug today and totally happy and satisfied because since I retired 12/23/13, I no longer have to get out of my warm bed and drive to work in a major snow/ice storm! For 25 years as a nurse I had no choice but to do just that and I hated it. We have 4.5-5" of snow here near RDU and I could just sit inside my warm home and watch it fall. Heaven.

Thanks! I must also admit that I am hopeful all my former coworkers are safe and didn't get stuck out on the highways today. My mother in law just emailed me and said Raleigh roads look like Atlanta a couple of weeks ago.

Congrats! I used this exact example as motivation to my wife 5 times over the last 2 months through all of this snow. This is a great example of the obvious benefits to not being required to work for wages any more. Good for you.

I think about that every time I have drive to work. I usually take the bus when it snows, but I would still rather just watch it fall in my slippers with my hot cocoa. Congrats!

That's awesome.  My wife is a nurse too but she has only been at it for 5 years.  She is on track to retire is 10 years or sooner but she actually really loves her job as a pediatric nurse and may want to go part time when we no longer need the income. It's a great profession but can definitely be very stressful. Congrats!

Congratulations on ER.. I see you live in NC...I am Jealous! Thats would be on my top to live someday.  Just beautiful there.  We have are worst winter since i can remember up here so glad I am in ER. Have had snow and cold since early November hence why i Put the Artic Midwest (Wisconsin). Usually you would get snow, cold warmup repeat. Not this year.

This used to be the worst part of my day- getting up and fighting traffic to get to work.  Well, the work kinda sucked too, but the drive was the most aggravating part of the day.

I retired in 2006, and have since gone back to work, but on my own terms.  I work from home, and have very flexible hours.

I can't imagine ever going back to work where I'd have to drive into an office every day.

I agree that that is one of the worst parts. I have an awesome commute (~1 mile) but still, the hardest part of my day in the winter is the part in between my warm bed and my warm office. Once I'm at work, I'm golden :)
