facepunch: dslr camera instead of desk chair
« on: January 31, 2013, 01:35:11 AM »
just realised i spent money on a dslr camera when i really should have got a desk chair.
i work at home and had been considering a desk chair but there are so many options and opinion plus there seems no way to guarantee something will last without spending crazy money (hundreds of dollars)
i have really wanted a dslr camera for about 5 years and finally got one (used) this week. sat at my uncomfy chair to open it and realised i had rather misprioritised my spending!!

but this is usually how i make decisions. i want something. i research, get scared by all the options and going for the wrong thing, then mull it over (for weeks/months/years) and finally suddenly decide i have to have it and just go for it.

i could almost certainly resell the camera for as much as i paid (got a great deal on the body) but it's mine now and i want it!

doh!

Don't be so hard on yourself. You can't exactly call a five year think about something an impulse buy and by buying second hand you at least achieved good value for money. Go out and take some great pictures and stop worrying about it!

You'll love the camera for years, find a desk chair on CL.

Guys, I mean, c'mon... If you are going to facepunch and stress out over every single thing you buy, your life is going to be awful.  Just relax a bit.  Not so much directed at you specifically, kt, but it seems like (reality might not reflect, I'm going off the cuff here) there have been too many posts along this line.  I can't remember who it was, but someone couldn't spend a GIFT CARD.  Just... I don't know, I have no words.

This.

I have a dLSR. A Canon Rebel 350D. I think I bought it in 2006/2007, it was on sale as the new model had just come out. I love that camera, it has brought me such joy and has been a part of every major and minor event over the years.

I remember that at the time it was a big purchase. I'm sure I thought a lot about what ever the other things I could have spent the money were, all the time frittering money way on crap.

Enjoy your camera, come up with a plan for the chair and revel in the fact that you're in a position to do both with some planning and thought.

How about turning your mistake into success? If you put in some effort you might be able to sell some of your photos and eventually break even?!

That being said, I’m on the same route and haven’t made a single buck with photography yet. Do I give up? I guess not.
