Do NOT regret some of the money you spend
« on: November 26, 2014, 07:32:36 PM »
I often read posts that say that Mustachians have decided to go out to dinner with friends or they have made a purchase and then they regret the money they have spent.

To me this is a waste of time and energy.  The time to think about a purchase is before you make it.  If you know the friends that asked you out will go to a place that you think is too expensive, don't go.  The discipline to be a Mustachian is NOT spending the money, instead of regretting the money already spent.  I think that we all spend more than we should sometimes but once I decide that I'm going to spend the money, I refuse to regret the expense.

Of course I can do this because I am debt free and nearing the end of working and a few extra dollars will not make any difference.

I just wanted to remind people that if you decide to spend the money, than you should enjoy it.

Please forgive the rant, I just came from the funeral of a friend that died from Cancer at 39, diagnosed just 7 months ago.  I'm glad that he and his wife spent some of their money on fun things earlier in their life.

IF your doing all the "right things" then you should allow yourself to indulge guilt free once in awhile...
Sorry to hear about your friend. I too have had alot of people around me lately get stricken from that miserable disease!

Spending money is one of the great pleasures in life.  Mmm spends a lot on lifestyle. Choices like a 400k house.  ITT may depend where your at on the journey.   Sorry about your friend.  Did that a few years ago myself.

I agree.

In fact, I'd take it further than random purchases: don't regret anything, ever.

Just make sure that everything you do is aligned with your values.
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
