I think I got suckered into opening a Facebook account, which does not make Dicey happy. So the deal was, if you made a donation to the non-profit via FB on Giving Tuesday, there would be no fees and Bill & Melinda Gates would match it, up to $1k.
Have I mentioned that I hate FB? Since I am frugal, I couldn't resist the lure of doubling my planned contributions to some of my favorite charities, and I reluctantly gave in.
Since I live on the West Coast, I was dutifully at my computer at 5:00 Tuesday morning. I logged on to my sting* new FB account, searched my charities and clicked on the "Donate" button. Both gifts were acknowledged without any mention of matching. WTF? Plus, there were fees. WTF?? Both local non-profits have received my dollars, but no word if my funds will be matched. Both were supposedly actively participating in the program. What gives? Was the match simultaneous, or does it happen at a later date?
Does anybody have any experience with this specific matching event? I would not have made my contributions until the next billing cycle, nor would I have given my information to FB, if not for the promised match.
* "sting" was an autofill for "shiny". I let it stand. Maybe it is the universe answering my question.
So far, this experience has given me no reason to improve my opinion of Facebook. Ugh. Help!
