DH?
« on: April 01, 2015, 04:57:34 PM »
I'm sure I'll slap my head when somebody tells me, but what does DH stand for? I see it everywhere on the forums

Not necessarily.  Some people just prefer abbreviations....

I don't think people generally use it sarcastically.

Though to someone totally unfamiliar with usage like that it sure does come across that way :)

Depending on how you feel at the moment, it can also stand for Dumb Husband or D*ck Head.

Here's a list of other common ones:

http://www.early-retirement.org/forums/f47/acronyms-and-slang-frequently-used-on-the-forum-34884.html

I looked on that list and could not find SWAMI.  So what does that stand for?

I've been on these forums 2 years and used the acronym DW myself many times. all this time I thought it was "designated wife" not dear wife. Not sure why I assumed or thought that.

I always think of it as "Dearest Husband" and I use it without a trace of sarcasm. He really is the dearest person in the world to me and I think he appreciates that I use the term to preserve his anonymonity, er, except of course when I posted our picture elsewhere on the forum recently. However, I can assure you that neither of us look that good in real life, lol. We're back to our usual pumpkin selves now and can safely walk about town without being recognized.
P.S. Thanks for deciphering SWAMI. Since I never really loved working, I'm unsurprised that I couldn't suss that one out on my own.

Was not sure about DH myself... Thought it was some version of Significant Other, I am fairly sure I have seen men use DH in reference to there wife.

When in reference to the mrs. it stands for Designated Hitter, as in "YOU BOUGHT WHAT?"  (smack!)

Wow, you guys are worse at the internet than I am.  I say that admiringly, really.

My wife's time on fertility boards also taught me that everyone is "dear."  Besides DH, you will often see DS (son), DD (daughter), DW (wife), MM (mini me).  Good luck out there.
