Covid-19 Social Security Glitch and the 2020 AWI
« on: October 15, 2021, 05:33:47 PM »
Seems to me the 2020 AWI did not tank as expected. I would think that this means that those born in 1960 (like me) won't see their benefits slashed the estimated 6 to 9% that caused some Congress members to propose bills that specify a more equitable calculation method?

https://www.ssa.gov/OACT/COLA/awiseries.html

2015   48,098.63   3.48%
2016   48,642.15   1.13%
2017   50,321.89   3.45%
2018   52,145.80   3.62%
2019   54,099.99   3.75%
2020   55,628.60   2.83%

Thanks for posting this information. I was born in 1961, so I have been following this but I hadn't realized that the 2020 AWI numbers had come out.

I think it would still be a good idea for Congress to act to ensure that future cohorts are not punished.

Yes, thanks for posting this. I was wondering how this was going to turn out.
