CORONA risk - is war or terrorism coming soon?
« on: April 01, 2020, 06:28:52 PM »
Rats will play while the cats away.

No doubt we are weakened right  now. Everyone is too but desperate people take desperate measures.

My biggest concern beyond health of everyone is someone tries to take advantage.

Strong leadership should help make those bad actors think twice.

We wait and we watch

Be vigilant

I doubt it. The nation states have other things on their mind (see: Iran) and the damage a little terrorist outfit could cause is going to be dwarfed by the damage being inflicted already. New York is soon at the 9/11 number of deaths and isn't anywhere near done and it would be really hard to inflict that kind of terrorism blow now given that people are mostly staying at home.

I'd be more worried about local nutcases.

Yeah, good points. I guess some of it would depend on the motivation, not that we ever truly understand that. I think some group could make a little noise and cause some distraction. But that may not be what they want. If they want to be the top news story for a week, it is going to take something pretty special and involved. Otherwise, just a blip.

I do hope the various entities are staying vigilant though. Which I am sure they are, they are better at this than most of us are.

Didn't North Korea just fire a missile (or something) into the sea?  Preparation for war games?  I mean, really, who cares about the dying people?

What for? Any nation that wants the USA destroyed has only to sit by and watch right now.

Also I heard ISIS are actually warning their members not to travel to infected countries

But the Dear Leader has to prove his superiority and that of his country’s.  What better time to attack than when the enemy is weakened and distracted?

Well, most countries/organisations that would be interested in either war or terrorism are weakened and distracted themselves.

And although we don't hear much about it, North Korea is affected too (at least he did admit he needed help fighting COVID as medical facilities in the country weren't good).

Not a big concern. Local terrorism (i.e nutcases, white supremacists, or even just criminal elements) may be more likely than something outside our borders. My concern is the gov to use as an excuse to do things they just wanted to do, now have an excuse for, such as gutting and relaxing of pollution and environmental and energy laws, and shifting of wealth and resources to big business over, everything else, because "emergency"

This. I think you guys are in danger of serious social upheaval. The results may well be positive, but the process will be messy.
