Cheapest way to watch espn / espn+ / Fox Sports
« on: September 19, 2020, 10:47:23 AM »
I don’t really want to support espns hard core political bias but trying to find cheapest way to watch sports on these 3 channels.

Espn+ is about $4,95 / month

However if a game is on espn you can’t watch it.

Doing some binging.

You can sign up for multiple free 5-7 day trials of Fubo, YouTube TV, DirecTV Now, etc., and other streaming services. I did this last year, with multiple emails and probably got 2 months of "free" cable during the shitty late fall/winter months. That way you can also evaluate the interfaces and overall performance these services have. I'm splitting the cost of Fubo (which has FS1, Fox and ESPN/ESPN2, but no CBS or ABC local) with a friend at $33 monthly.

You could so Sling TV at just $30 per month (ESPN/ESPN2), but you get no FS1 or local channels. Perhaps Fox Sports has an app you can pay extra for, if you decide to Sling it.

Whenever we've had a need to watch something that requires cable or a cable-like service, we've also done the free-trial carousel. I think we burned out most of our main email addresses at this point but I'm not opposed to creating an extra address or two just to jump back on.

I don't mean for this to sound condescending and I'm trying carefully to not just jump on a high horse here, but I'd really consider whether sports are even a priority. For years, I was trying to find creative ways to watch football (especially games that I can't get locally) and last year I just stopped trying to watch sports. It really altered my perspective on the weekends and made my less stressed. I don't feel like I need to be near the TV or my phone if a game is on and generally my QoL has improved since dumping sports. ~And, I'm off the saddle~!

Otherwise, there's always the questionably legal pirated streams. I'm only half kidding.

Chemist I could not agree more, was a big baseball fan for a while, but I gave up cable and went to listening to the game as well as watching some free highlights on YouTube and mlb .com,. I felt like I could multitask working on the bikes and listening to the game. Then  I gradually lost  most interest especially when I gave up drinking beer. No need to sit down for 3 hours on the couch, drinking beer and watching my team loose! Or even going out spending a ton of money come home drunk and my team looses again!
Another thing is when I do listen or watch it is more exciting because I never watch anymore.

YouTube TV gives you the ability to share a plan with family members.  If you have "family" members who are willing to share their login info with you, then you should be able to access their channel lineup.  Depending on where they're located, you may not get your regular local channels.  I wonder how many people go in with their friends and split the cost.

What sports are you trying to watch?  Disclaimer: I have DirecTV and am a sports whore, don't judge.

ESPN is available on Sling, as is Fox Sports.  ESPN is pretty much available everywhere, however Fox Sports is not and if you are wanting to watch a local Fox Sports channel for a specific team (in my area I have Fox Sun Sports and Fox Sports Florida, home to our basketball/baseball/hockey teams and the only way to see them is on those channels) then you might have to sign up for cable/sat service.
