Changes to Credit Score calculations
« on: August 26, 2018, 08:51:17 AM »
This isn't exactly new, but it's new to me.
I heard / saw on CNBC's 'On The Money' (TV show) that there have been changes to how the credit Co.s ( Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) calculate credit scores.

Apr. '18 -  tax liens are excluded from credit reports

Sept. '17 - medical debt is excluded for 180 days - because it takes a long time for insurance to pay the bills. And, medical debt is easier to remove from your credit score once is it paid off.

I saw the same thing yesterday on the cnbc site:

My various scores are already over 800, so it didn't mean much to me.

This is like changing the items in the "basket of goods" to fight and deny that inflation exists... Bad finances are bad. Just more smoke and mirrors to keep the monster fed.

Taking tax liens out of the credit report is silly.  Makes no sense.   You have to pay them, so they should count.

I can see ignoring medical bills for a few months as it really does take awhile for the money to come from the insurance -- assuming they have insurance.

Yeah, the medical bills change I get.  Back when I had a bunch of bills it would take me about 6 months just to get the insurance company to admit 50% of what they denied was incorrectly so and after that they usually pay in about 2 more months, so 8 months was needed just to work out.  But in the end I also didnt see any hospitals/doctos actually report me to any credit agencies 'cause I guess they already knew all this.

What happened was that information was being reported inaccurately, i.e. same name.  And it was a headache to get the information corrected for a lot of people (I've known people who have had to go through this, and it can take many years to correct, insane headache).  It appears the bureaus had to settle with the attorneys.  Not sure why they can't come up with a better method of ensuring the information is accurate.
