CC Churning with $50K/Month Bill
« on: September 16, 2019, 11:35:23 AM »
I just learned about credit card churning and have been reading up on it as much as possible. Seems like a fairly simple way to make a few extra bucks. My credit score is very good around 800.

Currently, I use an AMEX Gold card to pay all of my small business' expenses. The average monthly bill is around $50K and as much as $70K during busier months. So I end up with about $500 in points that I use to shop on Amazon most of the time.

Would I be better off putting that $50K/month across several other "churning" cards?

First things first you have a lot of reading to do.  Too many people get into churning without a clear set path to go forward on and then hit a brick wall very quickly ie 5/24.  Remember this is a marathon not a sprint.  With that high of a natural spend you could do any sign up bonus you want, but you will run through them so quickly that you will be getting denials very fast also.  Also it helps when you churn if you are into travel as that is where you will get the most bang for your buck.  If you plan on churning just for cash back I'd look at optimizing your current spend by putting it on a card that give's you 1x-5x spend depending on the category.

The bolded above makes me weep. Agree that you could leverage that $50-$70k spend per month into MILLIONS of points and miles per year across several signup bonuses. You have access to both personal AND business cards.

See this post for some inspiration. Note that Greg's approach here is extremely basic and therefore should be seen as the minimum you could do in that time frame. I would also say you should figure out what your end goals are here. Just straight cash back? Luxury travel? Reduce travel costs?

ETA: There are a few cards in particular (happy to talk with you about them) that would net you $1000 in travel EVERY MONTH with that kind of spend.
