Career Counseling for FIRE Types
« on: December 07, 2020, 10:47:34 AM »
So, my husband and I are deep in the middle years saving slog (a term coined by Our Next Life here: https://ournextlife.com/2018/04/25/saving-years-slog/).  We've heard the FIRE gospel, we've put in a plan, and it's working great!  Just another . . . how many more years to go?!?!

I've tossed around ideas for how to accelerate the plan, but they all require significant lifestyle changes I don't think we're ready to make.  I've also considered other jobs / careers, but in reality, I think my current job is about the best I can do with my skill set, interests, and work/life expectations, and I strongly suspect I can stay here as long as I want.  So, probably the best choice is to find a way to continue to work in this job until retirement.  The question is how to do that on a 5-10 year time horizon while keeping my sanity. Or, more aspirationally, how to make the most of a career path when you're anticipating a shorter-than-average career.

Which gets me around to my question: are there any career blogs written with FIRE folks in mind?  I find the FIRE blogs focus primarily on personal finance and lifestyle topics, while career blogs (particularly those for younger / mid-career folks) are written toward those with more traditional career goals.  Aside from Our Next Life (who I think does a good job of talking about this) any good resources that are at the intersection of these two?

Thanks for sharing the link.  I think there's some good morsels to be had in there about how to be persistent, how to remain "present" in life as we go on what could be seen as a dull journey through our working years.
Looks like they have a book advertised on their site.  Did you read that yet?

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
