cardcash.com for holidays or every day
« on: November 11, 2014, 02:41:06 PM »
I'm starting a thread about cardcash.com in case people aren't aware of it.

Basically, they buy gift cards and then sell at a discount.  I've never sold them any cards, but have bought several times and had no problems.

They make great holiday gifts.  The rate of discount off face value depends on the cards, ranging from 3% to 10+% off.  Inventory is lower now than usual, I'm sure due to holiday buying, but there are still cards to be had.

I also buy cards for myself if I have a major purchase coming up from a particular store, or for places I regularly shop, like Amazon.   Good way to add another small savings.

I used raise.com over the summer to buy gift cards for lowes and home despot at a discount of between 8% and 10% off face value. I then used these to fund tools/supplies for summer projects, stuff I would have had to buy anyway.

I use cardpool as well. Recently I started using topcashback.com to purchase cardpool gift cards, thanks to a tip on this forum. This way you get cash back thru topcashback.com AND get discounted gift cards.

I've never used these, but have heard very mixed reviews.  So I plan to use them in the future, but only for imminent purchases.  I think your risk of getting a dud/losing money goes up the longer you wait to use the card (money may disappear slowly over time).

I bought a large Talbots gift card in anticipation of their Cyber Monday sale (they put the entire store 50% off with free shipping) and when last CM rolled around, I couldn't use it. I'd purchased the card months before, and CardPool had no problem refunding me for my entire purchase when I got in touch with them.

I'd want to use it within the allowed time period for a credit card dispute.  For all I know, CardPool can close up shop tomorrow.

I have used Cardswap.ca (in Canada), not buying but selling them some gift cards I'd never have used otherwise. They were great, and I had a cheque in my mailbox within a week. They offer a paypal payment option too but I wanted to avoid any fees so I opted for the check in the mail instead.
