Biofeedback
« on: June 07, 2020, 04:33:07 AM »
Does anyone have experience with this?  I am a longtime sufferer of migraines and learned that training your parasympathetic nervous system to tamp down the body’s overreaction to certain stimuli can help. My insurance covers it but I have an HSA so out of pocket with a specialized nurse is about $750 for one opening visit and then 5 sessions. Basically this is supposed to help with pain management, anxiety disorders and even high blood pressure!  If you have had an experience with it please share.

I had some biofeedback sessions against backpain a few years back.
In my case, it consisted of a baseline measurement of specific muscle tension plus 4-5 sessions to actually exercise those muscles to "target level".
The idea was to train and better control specific muscle areas to counter the specific pain zones by getting visual feedback when I got it right.

Not sure if that's what you are looking at. I found it helpful as such, as I have good idea now how to mitigate the occasional pain. But the key really was persistent exercise of that muscle group, and a personal trainer would probably have had the same effect.

My wife suffers from migraine and constant daily headache.  She learned biofeedback as part of treatment at the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago.  The conscious goal they taught was lowering your body temperature.  Diamond's process covers all the bases: food and environmental triggers, diet, yes pharma.  Biofeedback is an important tool in her toolkit.

Worked in physio clinics for years and I've seen this used a lot. It seems to be a lot like every other technique - works brilliantly for some people and does nothing for others. All you can do is try it out yourself. Some people do absolutely swear by it.
