Best Basic (Non-smart) Cell - Phone
« on: April 16, 2017, 04:59:30 AM »
Greetings,
My wife is looking to buy a basic phone for our son. We do not want to buy a smartphone for him.
I know most of his friends have data/smart phones.  I don't think data is a great idea for every teen.
We are using Sprint as a carrier (It's free with my in-laws plan). We just have to bring the phone.
He just needs it to text/call.
Any suggestions?

you could get a smartphone without a data plan...

i like old candybar/nokia style for calls, texting sucks on all of them anyways, slider keyboards are "smartphone" enough that they use data as well

old sidekick phone or palm/blackberry for simple texting, again i consider them smartphone because they could use data for web access, might as well get a smartphone in that case

Feature phones are rare enough these days that there's no real "best", there just are. Here's the current list of available Sprint feature phones. Any used ones off Ebay that's Sprint branded with a clean ESN should be fine, too.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
