As if I didn't check my portfolio often enough

The newest device to torture yourself with as you count the seconds down to retirement.

And I thought peeking in on things just once a week was excessive on my part!

Seems like an Apple watch is a rather unmustachian thing to have.  One could have a great watch and 285 more soldiers in their account working for them.

That seems like the opposite thing to do.
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.

I had to uninstall my online broker's iPhone app so that I wouldn't look at my net worth every.single.day.  Life is better without having that information in your face all the time.

Same here!

Also, in Mint, I "closed" my investment accounts. I then plugged in my current account values into a static "Asset" account, and haven't updated them since. When I add money to my investment accounts, I just increase the value of the static asset accounts. Tiny bit more work, but I don't want to end up in a padded room because I can't stop looking at my constantly fluctuating net worth.

I still follow the market - because I can't help myself - but at least I don't see the change to my own accounts regularly. Though since the market is up again, I might update those values with the good news.

Over eleven thousand days to retirement? That would be an awfully depressing thing to see.

I've got about that many hours of working left and it seems daunting.

Not gonna buy one of these, but it would suite my concept of time when I'm FIRE'd:

It sounds like I'm abnormal but I check and graph my portfolio every morning when I'm in the office as a form of motivation to get me through the day.  I'm projected to FIRE in 5-6 years, if it showed I was still 30+ years out I would probably find it disengaging.  One other benefit I've noticed is that it makes me want to move the graph up so I invest more in our taxable account (401s, IRAs, HSA are all maxed).  Our goal is $20k annually but we're already at $14k for 2016 because I'm always looking to scrape together more to invest.

Just in case you ever decide to link to your investment accounts again: I've noticed that it's easy, on my smartphone Mint app, to avoid seeing anything about my net worth or my investments. I can quickly log in and just update any transactions.

Sounds like a lot of people in this thread needs more vacation time.

This exactly me too, but I usually check it right after the market closes so I have the most up to date info for the day.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
