I'm happy to see counterpoint to all those who just throw away their money when they become professional ball players.

Both these men are amazing.  Did you listen to the video about Mr. Read?  The only thing the Blonde anchorwoman had to say about it was "isn't it ironic that a man named Read is donating to a library?" and "Sure, it's important to save every month, but this assumes an 8% growth rate.  It's less probable that the next 40 years will have that."  So...  if there's only a 6% growth rate the man ends up with MERELY $3 million dollars.  How can you hear such an amazing story and so completely miss the point?

Thanks for posting that great article.  Truth be told, I've always harbored ambitions of van-dwelling ever since a 7 week camping road trip I took many years ago. This guy is my hero!

Yeah most of the anchors totally missed the point...

Of course the price of a vintage westfalia is approaching that of a small suburban home these days...

He should upgrade to a tricked-out Dodge/Mercedes Sprinter Van at least.

I live near the Blue Jays spring training complex and will be looking for the van in the coming weeks.

Given the lifestyle of an MLB player -- on the road 60 percent of the time between mid-February and late September, late October if the playoffs are involved, this really makes a lot of sense.

This dude totally gets it! Freedom! Agree on upgrading to the Mercedes but would take the Sportsmobile enhanced version for off road flexibility.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
