And some of us who reject the (desired) intermediation of all human interaction by the tech companies are going back to those styles of thing that don't involve apps.

More power to ya, but you are also arguing with yourself at times.

I... know very few people who use a laptop.  They're generally regarded as a necessary evil for portable use, but most people can't wait to get back to their desktops to get actual work done.

QR codes are a crappy way of putting text on a slide, though.

You and I live in completely different worlds, which might explain why you have such a different viewpoint from most of the other posters in this thread.

I have no idea what you are getting at with using a QR code to put text on a slide.
A QR code is a two dimensional bar code that - when scanned with a smartphone (or tablet) - directs you to additional online content. It can be almost anything, from videos to metadata to the person’s website.  They are frequently used in a “…if you want to know more, go here!”

Aren't the MMM forums themselves a tech intermidation of human interaction?  Seems like he's breaking his own rules by posting here....

I'm familiar.  They are used to redirect people to an utterly opaque endpoint, unreadable by a human.  I find them frequently used in place of what would be a simple weblink, and in the past few years, I see fewer and fewer "backup URL" text under them that you could use without a camera.

I generally try not to point my computing devices at "previously unknown to me" endpoints, though it's not a factor with a flip phone as I literally don't have a QR code decoder on it.  Not that I've made a habit of following them blindly regardless.  I broadly assume they point to malicious endpoints when presented without context.  And with context, probably a rickroll anyway.  The "QR code of drones in the sky" rickroll was utterly masterful.

You rather misquote me.  I said the "tech companies" - referring to the large FAANG (or whatever they've rebranded themselves to these days...) companies.  I object to the push by Google, Meta, Twitter/X/whatever to make sure they're in between all human interactions - the push to use their messenger services (and to buy up alternatives that are popular), the attempt every one of them has made to insert payment handling into their services, etc.

I genuinely don't mind small, independently run forums, though I'd prefer they be hosted on one's own server, not the cloud.  No idea how this forum is hosted, tbh.  I haven't RE'd the hosting arrangements.

I meantion it because you seem to not really know, which is understandable for someone who, by choice, cannot use them. Frequently they are far more than you describe.
