Anyone plays HOTS or Heroes of the Storm here?
« on: August 21, 2015, 01:54:52 PM »
I am wondering if any of my fellow mustachian(ette)s plays this fun PC game?

Let me give a little bit of context:

It's a free to play multiplayer (MOBA) game set in the Blizzard Games series Canon. You play as one hero in a team of 5 and the goal is to destroy the opponent's "core" by making your way through waves of minions and fighting against another team of 5.

I really like that the game is free. Each week, there are a certain number of heroes that you can play for free. After each match, you gain xp and gold which allows you to level up and gain more gold. You can "purchase" characters with ingame gold so that you can play them whenever you feel like. Of course, the game also gives you the option to pay real money for the characters (for those impatient) or even skins (!). One important disctinction is that paying real money does not give any sort of advantage in game.

It's like league of legend but the games are quicker, the XP is shared evenly accross the team and the community is pretty ok/nice (mainly due to the previous reasons).

I would be happy to hook up with some fellow mustachians to play this highly fun game.

I play LoL.  Played way too much of it to switch MOBAs at this point (Diamond last season, Plat this season) and have spent way too much money on it as well.

That and it's really dumb that Blizzard has two games with the exact same acronym(Heart of the Swarm).

Speaking of which, can't wait for Legacy of the Void.

If you 've played LoL, and you've played starcraft you know all there is to know to play HOTS.

Basically HOTS is LOL with no last hitting and shared XP and no items (but talents earned with XP) using pretty much the same key layout as SC2.

I agree that it's stupid to call the games the same. But I do like that there are characters from those games (amongts others).

Also a LoL player, I don't have enough gaming time to devote to 2 games.

Played Heroes some when it went live over the summer.  Never played a MOBA before.  It was entertaining enough, but got repetitive very quickly.  I could see it being interesting if you were part of a dedicated team of players working out strategies together, but I find I don't have the time or energy for that sort of game any more.

Right now I'm only playing Blizzard's Hearthstone.  It's also free and quick, and since it's just me I can play or not as my time and mood permits.  It's a great improvement from the days when I used to spend copious time and money on Magic the Gathering.  Same fix - less investment.  :)

It's also on mobile, so that's clutch.  One of my 4 mobile games along with UFC, Boom Beach, and Clash of Clans.

In high school I played the beta version of Magic Online. It was amazing back then because every day/week you could get free booster packs. I would spend hours in the trade rooms trying to build foil decks. Was so dumb/fun.

Now it's just a huge money grab for Wizards... those bastards.
