I'm understanding I can provide them that account number and we both get $50.

Feel free to private message me. Just post here saying you did.

I assume you have to get someone to sign up for Reliant Energy electricity plan to get $50?

Are you in Texas?

If so, you are probably paying too much with Reliant.  They market very heavily while other low key providers don't and are therefore cheaper.

Right now rates are running about 10c/kWh.  With de-regulation you really need to go to www.powertochoose.com and do a new contract every 3-12 months to get the best rates.  If you are month to month you are screwed!  Reliant charges 15.5 c/kWh month to month which sucks!

Yes i am in texas.  I have a pretty decent rate based on what I researched.

Of course, if i can add someone's account number and share $50 for each of us, it would help reduce that cost.  Just one for the year would probably bring my average cost lower than any service I could find out there, but getting 2 account numbers would guarantee that based on my usage.

I havent had any takers so far, but that could mean there's no one in this thread with Reliant.

by the way, natural gas prices are going to be pretty volatile over the next couple of years so locking in long term pricing is probably not a bad idea.  We're currently at the shortest supply in storage of natural gas in over a decade, but production is ramping which means the current large increase in prices we've seen over the last few months are likely to be here for a while and will be all but guaranteed should we have another winter like this one in the next year or two or an exceptionally hot summer.

All depends on how much coal fired electricity is produced.  This is where some of our environmental goals, some well founded, some not, hit all of us in the pocket book.
