My last job was in an incredibly high pressure 'consulting' organization. At times I had as many as 15 projects at the same time - some of which were my own, others where I was supervising a team, others where I was collaborating with partners etc. Some of the stuff we did was interesting, but very little of it was actually put to use by anyone, anywhere.
I can't even count how many times I poured my best effort into some massive project only to get a 'thanks' from the client and see it go on a shelf, never to be opened again.
Eventually I developed an anaphylactic response to office work, which still seems pretty strong 8 years later. Not sure I'll ever go back.
