Anyone else in a Buy Nothing group?
« on: January 29, 2015, 12:30:55 AM »
Hi all,

I've been hanging out here about a month, really enjoying reading the forums.

Haven't seen anyone else mention Buy Nothing. It's a hyper local sharing group (each town has it's own) run on Facebook. People offer up things they don't need, are ready to part with. I have gotten rid of a bunch of stuff we were done with  and also gotten a few cool things from others.

Anyone else do Buy Nothing out there?

Oddly, no groups in London UK. There must be informal ones. Few groups in smaller towns, perhaps reflecting stronger community spirit?

I tried Freecycle many years ago, anything good was gone in 10 seconds and the rest was junk.  When I lived in a metro area good things could be had on the free section on craigslist, but in our rural area, it is mostly junk as well.  If something is decent enough, I might as well sell it by the time I post it and set up a meeting with someone.
