Anyone Else have a dirty VW?
« on: July 27, 2016, 07:46:49 AM »
So before I found MMM I had purchased a brand new (hold the face punches please...) 2014 VW Jetta TDI on credit of course...  I've held onto it for the sole purpose of the looming payout coming.  I was just curious if anyone else on the forum has one of these affected cars and what you plan to do with the vehicle?  Do you plan on participating in the buy back program and using the new found cash to buy a more reasonable car?

I don't, but a friend of mine does.

He's had it for 5 years, loves it (he does a lot of long distance driving) and the buyback pretty much covers his cost on it - so it's going to have been a free car for 5 years.  I think his plan is to go buy a new VW gas car, since there's some sort of significant brand loyalty discount if you buy another VW group product.

I have a 2013 Passat TDI.  We don't want to sell it back. We would prefer to "fix" and get the reduced cash payment.  But if that doesn't happen, we'll consider selling it back.  Just don't know what we would buy to replace it.  I feel like if we sell it back, we'd kind of get screwed because we'd have to buy another car and have a payment again.  While if we take the reduced cash, it would just about pay off our loan and we'd still have the car we love.  Our fix is really just a firmware update since we already have the Adblue fluid system.  So we're still just waiting it out.

I have a 2015 Passat TDI. I'd rather collect the cash payment without the fix (although I don't think that's possible) and keep the car. I like it a lot and have no idea what I'd replace it with.

I have a 1998 VW TDI (project car; not currently drive-able), which legally pollutes way more than even a non-compliant modern diesel VW. I run 100% biodiesel in it, which (being carbon-neutral) satisfies my enviro-smugness even if the particulate output is significant.

If I had a 2009+ VW instead, I would have absolutely no moral qualms about taking the reduced payout, keeping the car, and then having a third-party tuner modify it (illegally) to increase the power output and pollution beyond even the non-compliant original condition. (I'd also have the tuner adjust the parameters of the DPF regeneration event to enable it to burn biodiesel, pending research on TDIClub.com to see if that would actually be sufficient.)

I have a 1970 VW Type 3 Squareback that's really just rust with an engine and wheels... does that count?

We have a 2013 Passat TDI and plan to get the "fix" and the cash payment.  Curious if the "fix" will greatly (>20%) impact our fuel mileage.  It's pretty nice getting 42 mpg combined city/hwy and 52+ mpg on long trips.

2015 Golf TDI here. It has been on storage insurance and collecting dust the majority of this year. Have no reason to have the car as my work provides me with a car but was unable to sell it (best offer was $15,000 on a 2015 with less then 10,000 miles on it).

Will be taking the buy back and will say goodbye to VW forever.
