Anyone doing Amazon flex, doordash,or grubhub
« on: November 12, 2017, 10:00:35 AM »
So Doordash, the restaurant delivery service has really emerged in our area (probably impacting our in house delivery amounts also), and I believe Grubhub nationwide is doing well.  Now I'm hearing a little about amazonflex as another part-time casual driving gig.  Anyone on the board trying any of these places for casual income?

I would probably consider doing Amazon Flex, if they started in my area. I believe I'm on the list to be notified if/when that happens. I'm not sure why, but I don't like the idea of delivering food. This is the kind of thing that makes me think I could get away with leaving my "career" earlier, and supplementing with ~20 hours a week of flexible no-pressure gigs.

My wife is doing Amazon Flex when she can. Because we live near a major metro area, she can pick and choose when and where she wants to work. So far she has only been able to take the normal $18/hr rate. She was notified that Amazon Prime Day and the holidays will bump that rate up to $25+/hr. The offers are for 4 hour blocks of delivering packages and Amazon has it down to about that to make all the deliveries.

You have to weigh in the costs of fuel, wear & tare, and time to see if its worth it.

I did PostMates for about a month.
It is (was?) another restaurant food delivery service.
I also did a couple of deliveries from drugstores.

I had to bump up my cell plan as it uses data, and I usually use WiFi for that.
I kept a lot of notes, and was figuring out how to maximize my $$.
I'm pretty sure I could have made more but I chose not to go downtown because of the one way streets, parking for pickup and deliver plus trouble finding addresses

Then UberEats came into my area.   The # of deliveries tanked.  I rode it out two weeks.  When I couldn't even make $5/hr, I quit.
My car is to old for Uber.
