Step 2) Determine your min. spend date via SM (should be around 1/14/18).

What's SM? Sorry I am new at this...

So I guess the person on the phone didn't know what they were talking about.

I followed the advice here, hoping to get that SW companion pass. I got approved for the plus card. Then the next day applied for a prefered card (from a different computer). But got a message that they will review my application for the premier and let me know in 30 days. So I guess that didn't work??
Oh well.

Applied for both the Plus and Premier (spelling?) today using different browsers.

Was not approved...at end of both applications got the statement saying they need to review my application and it could take up to 30 days.

What gives? No bueno...

You can still call their reconsideration line if you get denied initially. They oftentimes will just move some credit limit around from your other chase cards to the new one and get you approved. They'll likely ask why you want 2 similar cards, but I usually just explain how I like to separate out expenditures, but love [insert points earned on credit card] so I want 2 cards with the same point earning structure. That's been my experience in the past at least

I tried that. Calling the recon line, and explaining why i need 2 cards.  At first she seemed understanding and said they can reshuffle my credit limit because I also have my mortgage with them, and because I've been a good customer. Then she came back on and said they can't do that because they are new cards, so they can't move stuff around. That's kinda lame. Should i have threatened them with moving my mortgage elsewhere?

Ugh...this sucks.  I was going to try this too.

Maybe you should simply call back and try someone else.

Called again. she said the application will be looked at by another recon specialist before they can make a decision. She asked basically the same questions as the last person and in addition asked about my payment history with a credit card I have with a different bank. which i thought was weird. I've had that card for 13 years no problems. She wanted to know if i pay it all off monthly or the minimum. I said I paid it all off. Not sure if that was the right answer.
Apparently i can call in 1 to 2 days to see what they decided. Didn't sound good to me.

I got approved for both but did have to call in. Even denied on one but a CSR went through recon process and got me approved.  Now at 5/24....guess I went full travel hacker? Good thing I'm in 2P mode haha.

Should I call a third time and try the recon line? It just seems pointless like they have already made up their mind, or maybe I am just not very persuasive.
I make over a 100K a year, own my house, have a mortgage with them, have never been late on a payment and only have 3 other cards of any kind. I feel like I am not saying the right things when I talk to them? Maybe I am not cut out for this multiple credit card business and should just go back to having the one with no points/miles, etc.

I told a white lie...that I wanted both the cards so I could keep my work travel separate. The lady said she'd start the recon. process and then we basically walked down my application again. Only other thing was asking to move some credit over from my Sapphire ($2k) which was probably necessitated by them granting me a $14k CL on my other SW card.

Up to you. Seems like Chase really cracked down on these SW approvals. You do miss 100% of the shots you don't take. If it doesn't work out or you don't call, there are still some great options out there for you with only three cards in your wallet.

They actually gave me 28 K credit limit on the first south west card, which I asked her to be cut in half, hasn't happened.  should I mention that I have gotten other offers of refinancing my mortgage with other companies (which is true!), and the fact they won't issue me a card is making me seriously consider going with a different lender for my mortgage?

Chase called me today and approved me for one of the SW cards but not the other.  Ugh.  Wondering if I should call the recon line and try to get this approved as I could REALLY really use that companion pass!

On another note, got a preapproval for a Delta Amex Gold with a 60K signup bonus...wondering if I should jump on that (?)...

I was denied when I called in on my 2nd SW card.  Called recon, denied because they wanted to see "how I handled the new credit" of the approved SW card.  Called a day later, told I was denied because of "too many recent inquiries" but I explained I wanted two to separate work from personal travel.  CSR walked me through the recon. process, ended up moving $2k in CL and got approved.

Do you mind posting the recon line number?

I've called twice with no luck.  Does it matter that they just mailed out the denial letter?  If that makes any difference I'll stop trying.

I have 4 Chase accounts - I'm not sure why I was denied.

I believe it's 1-888-270-2127.

I have not experienced a denial, so I don't know how that factors in.  My guess is that the fight is probably over, but I don't know for sure.

You could wait 30 days and get a Biz card, or the other personal card + a referral would get you the other 50k miles you need.

Yeah...on the phone they said I was denied due to number of accounts with Chase (like I said I have 4).

When I asked them how many accounts was too many (assuming they would say 5) they said they couldn't tell me that information because it was proprietary (spelling?).  I am pretty p'ed off about this denial...I can't remember the last time I got denied for something.

Thanks for the additional info...I think if they're denying me now for 'number of Chase accounts' another card may just not happen for me...

^Very bizarre.  I had a CF, CFU, Sapphire (the old one with no AF that no longer exists, if I'm not mistaken), and the Sapphire Preferred and had to haggle my way to get both approved.  Also have a checking account with them.  I'm 5/24 until 5/2018 (because I financed the engagement ring for my fiance on a Synchrony 0% interest for 12 months card) so I'll have to wait until May to be back under 5/24 and will probably hit a biz card or two.  Thankfully, fiance is only 2/24 and has plenty of options to add some cards.  Her oldest card drops off the x/24 radar in June as well.

Wells Fargo sent my wife an offer today for $150 by "spending $500 in purchases in the first 3 months." Unlimited 1.5% cash reward on purchases, $0 annual fee.
I have not dabbled in CC rewards, I'm thinking about applying for this card.
Ten or fifteen years ago I whittled our cards down to one just to eliminate paperwork.
Since then my wife has added a Sears card (get some freebee) and a Sam's card for the 5%
back on fuel.
With online bill pay and lots of free time, I think I can now see my way to having more cards.
 Is this worth doing?
Can I open one in my name also?
I see this in DarkandStormy's sig line,
Earn 50,000 Ultimate Rewards points with Chase Sapphire Preferred - $4k spend in 3 months.
https://www.referyourchasecard.com/6/2MOVOLZCEJ
We would have a tough time spending $4k in 3 months.
I guess we could delaysome expenses, and buy others early!
It says, "Earn 50,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening* - that's $625 towards airfare or hotels when you redeem through Chase Ultimate RewardsŪ."
I would love to earn some flights. What does, "when you redeem through Chase Ultimate RewardsŪ" mean? And, How would I do that?
   Thanks for your help, BTDr

Yeah, the $4k in spend is tough for us...we might pay ahead on Costco gift cards to make it work.

The $625 figure mentioned is simply redeeming them through Chase's Ultimate Rewards travel portal - it's like an Expedia or Orbitz type of site. If you see a hotel for $125 you'd only need 10,000 Ultimate Rewards points to buy it.  Ultimate Rewards become much more valuable when you transfer them to their travel partners at a 1:1 value - United, Southwest, British Airways, Marriott, Hyatt are the ones I know off the top of my head.

Yes. You can then combine them with your spouse's points and make transfers to the same United/Marriott/Kris/etc. account. 50,000 United miles is probably worth more than $625 from the Chase portal.
