In order to organize my saving goals I have a TIAA Direct Saving account which is intended to collect funds for emergencies, home improvements and other goals. This "high yield" account gives me 0.44% APR.
I went to my credit union this morning to deposit refund checks from my homeowners and car insurance policies (I removed excessive coverage and raised a deductible) and noticed a sign about their "RewardU" checking account that is the same account that I have basically except it gives interest at 1.5% APY, no minimum balance (max at that APY is 10K). All that was necessary to switch me over was just signing disclosure forms...same account. same debit card, came check book, so easy..
But, now I don't feel like putting my money in the savings account. Its annoying because I like the compartmentalization, it helps me organize my thoughts not to have "different" monies all smushed together.
