Stealing power and unauthorized use aside, I'm pretty impressed.  (Though he wasn't missing a washer and dryer, he was missing a flushing toilet!)

Thanks for sharing, both interesting and amusing!

I love the creative thinking of some people it amazing me. Doubtful though it will be a secret much longer if this really gets out especially when it says UHaul on the door. Wouldn't take long for them to find out the location with all the clues hes left.

The company probably knows, but they just don't care.

He is paying them, and what he is paying them is likely still profitable even after the electricity costs. They are already paying for climate control for that giant building. His lights and refrigerator are likely barely moving the needle. If most people were ok with these living conditions the company would be happy to call it affordable apartments... but most people are not ok with that.

He blows his savings on a ridiculous tv, games, liquor and shoes. And steals water. Not mustachian. I'm glad he moved out.

Employees knew about it, and he paid for power (probably the water as well).

Definitely illegal and extremely unsafe. Here are 36 reasons why living in non-residential zoned space is a very bad idea:

I know a guy who did this about 15 years ago. He worked nights so he would just go sleep there during the day. He showered at the gym or at church. Helped him save a lot of money.

Most the people killed in that warehouse were party/concert goers and didn't actually live there, all but one if I recall.

There's a fire extinguisher right at his entrance, and probably numerous well lit exit signs. The "living conditions" at that warehouse were absolutely wretched, this guy has a pretty sweet setup by comparison.

Very creative, this guy thought of everything. Even gets free security out of the deal lol. Only thing I question is the sensibility of a 4k TV living in a place like that.

My take on the video is that this is a guy who likes to tinker and shows a decent amount of ingenuity.

My impression is that this was not out of need, but to show it could be done.  Don't know how long he "lived" there, but seems like a lonely existence.  If he only slept there, fine, but seems he might have spent a decent time in the unit.

No one would do this out of need.

I'm quite sure it's been done by many people out of need and don't doubt that many are doing it now.

Interesting...with that much crap not sure why he wouldn't just have 2 units

not sure this was done out of necessity..."oh here's my new 4K tv...shame the surround sound isn't set up properly..."

If you were in a dire situation like that I imagine a cot and sleeping bag would work and playing video games and surfing the internet would not be at the top of your list of things to do.  Might as well live out of a van.

More power to him. But where does he take a dump?

Other than that, how do you be a storage unit "ghost" with a surround sound system?

Hmmm, couple years ago a homeless person froze to death in a Uhaul trailer here. Didn't find him until the spring when he started to stink. Turns out an uninsulated metal! trailer in Montana winters is a poor choice. I realize many have mental health issues, but it still boggles the mind how so many wind up here in the winter. I would think warmer climates would call to someone without a roof.

If I ever get to the point where I'm going to be homeless, I'm off to Hawaii with my last cash.

OK, let me clarify.  By "this", I mean his actual set-up.  He wasn't a guy sneaking into an empty box to get out of the cold.  Clearly he was far from homeless.

By 'like this guy', I mean someone who had the dough to pay for the rental, his food, his tv, his phone and internet service, the equipment to build it out.  And, he qualified to move into an apartment a little bit later, so he had cash for first, last and security.  It's an attention-getter, but for his ingenuity in making it work in such a small space.  It strikes me as a gimic or something he did for fun to show it could be done.

So, truly homeless people aren't what I had in mind.

I frequently drive by an old mill-turned-office building, and they advertise outside that offices are available for $50 (I assume per week).  I've thought to myself, "That'd be a cheap place to live."  I've never been inside, so I have no idea whether that's at all realistic.  I assume an office would have a locking door and a bathroom ... or at least access to a community bathroom.

There was a Google employee who did that with a box truck. A baseball player that did that with a VW van. I used to rent a storage unit for a shop - a big mental health plus for me at a time when I had a job that I was done with but couldn't leave yet.

I love creative solutions like that. Doesn't take much space or money to be comfortable.
